Backscattered Solar Lyman-$\alpha $ Emission as a Tool for the Heliospheric Boundary Exploration

چکیده
This review summarizes our current understanding of the outer heliosphere and local interstellar medium (LISM) inferred from observations modeling interplanetary Lyman-$\alpha$ emission. The emission is produced by solar Lyman-alpha photons (121.567 nm) backscattered H atoms inflowing to LISM. Studies radiation determined parameters hydrogen within a few astronomical units Sun. appeared be decelerated, heated, shifted compared helium atoms. detected deceleration heating proved existence secondary created near heliopause. finding supports discovery Hydrogen Wall beyond consisting heated observed in HST/GHRS absorption spectra toward nearby stars. shift bulk velocity was first observational evidence global asymmetry confirmed later Voyager situ measurements. SOHO/SWAN all-sky maps intensity identified variations wind mass flux with heliolatitude time. In particular, two maxima at mid-latitudes were discovered during activity maximum, which Ulysses missed due its specific trajectory. Finally, Voyager/UVS New Horizons/Alice UV spectrographs extra-heliospheric We these scientific breakthroughs, outline open science questions, discuss potential future heliospheric experiments.

Modeling Solar Lyman Alpha Irradiance
Solar Lyman alpha irradiance is estimat,ed from various solar indices using linear regression analyses. Models developed with ~nultiple linear regression analysis, including daily values and 81-clay running means of solar indices, predict reasonably well both the shortand long-term variations observed in Lyman alpha. It is shown that the full disk equivalent width of tlle He line at 1083 111x1 ...
متن کاملMagnetic susceptibility as a tool for mineral exploration (Case study: Southern of Zagros Mountains)
Magnetic susceptibility has been extensively used to determine the magnetic properties of rocks for different applications, such as hydrocarbon or mineral explorations. This magnetic quantity can be directly measured in an accurate but time-consuming operation, or it can be mathematically approximated using a reliable procedure to achieve a desired accuracy. The Poisson theory is one of the mos...
متن کاملInterstellar heliospheric probe/heliospheric boundary explorer mission—a mission to the outermost boundaries of the solar system
The Sun, driving a supersonic solar wind, cuts out of the local interstellar medium a giant plasma bubble, the heliosphere. ESA, jointly with NASA, has had an important role in the development of our current understanding of the Suns immediate neighborhood. Ulysses is the only spacecraft exploring the third, out-of-ecliptic dimension, while SOHO has allowed us to better understand the influence...
متن کاملDetection of Ultraweak Photon Emission (UPE) from Cells as a Tool for Pathological Studies
Objective: It is well-known that all living cells emit ultra-weak photon emission (UPE), which is due to byproducts of chemical reactions in cell metabolisms. It has been shown that Reactive Oxygen Species (ROS) in the cells enhances the UPE intensity. The magnitude of such UPE is extremely weak (i.e. a few to 103 photons/ (sec.cm2)), and the detection of such ultra-weak signals is hardly possi...
متن کاملO-11: Immunoneutralization of Inhibin Alpha Subunit as A Tool for Improving Farm Animal Fertility
Background: The objectives of a series of studies undertaken was to improve farm animal reproductive efficiency in terms of embryo production efficiency, conception rate and litter size by immunoneutralization of inhibin in conjunction with other conventional reproductive techniques. Materials and Methods: A recombinant porcine inhibin alpha-subunit mature peptide was produced by mass scale and...
